NEAR EAST FOUNDATION HELPS CHILDREN

The developing world’s most vulnerable, this year nearly 11 million children will die before their fifth birthday; 14 million will be orphaned by AIDS; 246 million will work, too poor to go to school; two million will die in wars and more than three times that be permanently or seriously hurt.

Near East Foundation has been rescuing children in crisis from the first. Since our founding as a relief operation for Armenians and other peoples of the Middle East during World War I—with orphanages and schools and medical care and education…we’re credited with saving over a million lives in that single mission, including 300,000 orphans. Now--

  • we just returned to Armenia after 75 years to work with street kids in a country where 48 percent of people live in poverty;
  • in the West Bank we address the terrifying trauma of war on young lives;
  • in Lesotho it’s AIDS orphans, a tragic consequence of one of the world’s highest infection rates;
  • in Jordan our Cans for Kids recycling program provides financial, medical and environmental benefits;
  • in Egypt children’s art and music are part of a comprehensive revitalization of oldest and poorest Cairo.

I want to help vulnerable children with my contribution to the Near East Foundation.
