NEAR EAST FOUNDATION FEEDS THE HUNGRY

Famine accounts for less than 10 percent of those who die from hunger. Chronic, persistent malnutrition kills most. This moment 840 million people, one-third in sub-Saharan Africa, are hungry--20,000 will die today from hunger-related causes. It used to be 35,000. So significant progress has been made because of effective efforts by the likes of the Near East Foundation.

A CASE IN POINT
In Mali we help farmers become more productive in hundreds of villages, reaching hundreds of thousands of people.

  • with natural resource management training associations of farmers to advance;
  • establishing tree nurseries;
  • appropriate irrigation techniques improve rice production;
  • women learn to grow vegetables in cooperative gardens.

MORE
Near East Foundation works in farm development and marketing in Djibouti too; more irrigation in Lebanon and Lesoto; and fish farming in Jordan, where existing ponds can be used for triple duty--providing irrigation, more protein all around plus added 20 percent income for the enterprising farmer. The Near East Foundation has what it takes to save the lives of hungry people every day.

I want to fight malnutrition with my contribution to the Near East Foundation.
